Welcome to Nursing Leadership and Management
2012.
NLM 2012 is a forum that provides
an opportunity for nurses in leadership and management roles to
meet, discuss and learn from each other and experts in the
field. NLM 2012 is designed to assist new and experienced nurse
leaders meet the challenges in management, clinical practice, continuing
professional development, education and research. NLM
2012 will draw together inspirational leaders and managers
to share with you how they have tackled these challenges with
insight, research, knowledge and humour.
To complement the Congress program
two-days of Pre-Congress Workshops will be held. These
workshops are small group opportunities to acquire skills and
knowledge to assist you in your career development as a nurse
leader. Register for any Workshop and the Congress and
you will receive 5% off your Congress registration fee.
Microsoft and NLM2012
will also offer Congress participants Free of Charge the
opportunity to participate in Microsoft's Productivity
Immersion Experience. This 90 minute workshop will be
held throughout the Congress days, so make sure to book when you
register for the Congress. There are only seven places per
session so register early to avoid missing out.

Professor Ken Parry
Ken Parry FAIM FAHRI is a Professor of
Leadership and Director of the Centre for
Leadership Studies, at Bond University. Prior to
that he was Professor of Management at Griffith
Business School and Founding Director of the
Centre for the Study of Leadership in
Wellington, New Zealand. He conducted two
national surveys and has trained more than 900
managers in executive development programmes. |

Ms KAREN COOK

Australia
Karen has over 30 years
experience as a nurse in a variety of practice
areas in Australia and overseas. She worked for
a number of years in nursing and midwifery
regulation at the State, National and
International level. More recently Karen
has been involved in workforce planning as a
nursing lead with Health Workforce Australia
working on the National Training Plan for
doctors, nurses and midwives.

Dr Mark Parrish is Microsoft’s Director of
Health Solutions Group for Asia Pacific and
Middle East, leading a team of health
professionals across the region. he and his team
across the Asia, work with public and private
health organisations to help them improve their
clinical and business outcomes by applying
innovative software solutions. |

Dr Maureen Farrell
Dr Farrell is a senior lecturer within the
School of Nursing and Midwifery at Victoria
University and has over 25 years experience as
an academic and nurse in the health care sector.
Maureen has an impressive track record in the
development of quality educational projects that
have benefited the nursing discipline, the
clients / patients, other healthcare
professionals, and members of the wider
community. |

Ms Sue McIndoe,
Clinical Lead NeHTA
Sue McIndoe has extensive
experience as a Registered Nurse and Midwife in
hospital and community settings in Queensland,
Victoria and the Northern Territory. Sue is
currently employed by Royal District Nursing
Service in Melbourne where she manages the
Informatics department. Sue is also on the
executive committees of Nursing Informatics
Australia and the Victorian Branch of the Health
Informatics Society Australia. |

Professor Marian Baird
Professor of Employment Relations in the
University of Sydney Business School and
Research Coordinator for the Discipline of Work
and Organisational Studies. Marian is Director of
the Women♀Work Research Group and co-editor of
the Journal of Industrial Relations.

Mrs Jacqui Parle
Jacqui is a Director and Co-owner of Best
Practice Australia (BPA). With 16 years
experience researching Organisational Culture,
Jacqui is a recognised expert in this field.

Mr Glen Taylor
Glenn Taylor is a
registered nurse and CEO of the Nursing &
Midwifery Health Program, Victoria. His
experience is in psychiatric nursing and alcohol
and drug work. He is in the privileged position
of directly supporting his colleagues, whilst
influencing the management of nurse and midwife
health in Victoria. |

Air Vice Marshal Mel Hupfeld
Air Commander Australia, Royal Australian Air
Force
Air Vice-Marshal Hupfeld was promoted and
appointed to his current position as the Air
Commander Australia on 3 February 2012. In this
position he provides specialist air advice on
raise, train and sustain issues to the joint
defence environment. |

Dr Joyce
Hendricks
Dr. Joyce Hendricks teaches in the post graduate
and undergraduate courses at Edith Cowan
University in Western Australia. Joyce
supervises students at honours, master and PHD
level. Her research interests include
leadership, education and nursing. Joyce has a
strong educational and clinical focus. |

Ms Vicki Cope
Vicki is a general trained nurse and midwife who
has taught in nursing, midwifery. Her research
interests include professionalism, law and
ethics and the maintenance of professional
standards in nursing and midwifery through
continuing professional competence. Vicki is a
PhD candidate with her study focusing on
resilience in nursing. |

Associate Professor Chris
Kewley
Chris is the Director of Post Graduate Studies
within the School of Nursing and Midwifery,
University of Newcastle.
Chris has
considerable experience in international human
resource management and has worked in
partnership with the tertiary education sector
within Hong and Singapore on the provision of
healthcare training courses. Chris has
extensive experience at senior executive levels
within the Australian public healthcare sector. |

The NLM 2012 program, while
focusing on nursing leadership and management, will involve individuals from all areas of nursing as well as other
non-nursing professional groups. Nursing leadership crosses all
boundaries and has been identified as a key issue in the recent
national inquiries into the ongoing nursing crises in this
country and internationally.
The 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008
and 2009 events attracted delegates from a diverse range of
